CrossFit HEL is:
1. A GPP training facility (individual)
2. A Team (individual vs. individual)
3. A family (community)
CrossFit is a beautifully simple methodology which aims to increase the General Physical Preparedness (GPP) of an individual. Since it's inception into mainstream fitness, CrossFit has grown exponentially and multiple training facilities can be found in every major city in the U.S.
General Physical Preparedness, or GPP, is a measurement of how prepared an individual is at basic life tasks. GPP requirements will vary from each individual to the next. For some, GPP means lifting and carrying grocery bags and children up and down multiple flights of stairs. For others, GPP is sprinting 400m with a 20lbs. weight vest and carrying a rifle as fast as possible. No matter what your GPP necessity, CrossFit will build your GPP capacity. This is why you will find Navy SEALs training next to soccer moms at CrossFit facilities.
We ALL need GPP!
CrossFit HEL utilizes the Team concept in several ways. First, all workouts are led by a knowledgeable, experienced coach. Proper movements patterns are a key to increasing power output. Having a coach not only raises the value of your training but also greatly reduces the risk of injury. Each training day is programmed which eliminates the need for you to write your own workout as well as giving you direction and focus in your training. Second, when you workout with a partner (or against a friend) you will train harder. If change is to occur, there must be stress. This is a basic truism of the Universe. Therefore, in order for physical results to be achieved there must be intensity. This has been tried and tested over and over again in college weight rooms, Olympic training centers, and military bases all around the world. The correlation between competition and intensity can not be overlooked - if you are competing, you are likely working more intensity. And harder, more intense training, brings quicker results. Finally, accountability and enjoyability. It is much easier to skip a workout when you train alone. It is much easier to quit or reduce intensity when you are training alone. It is much more fun when you have someone to talk to, laugh with, and understands the workout to just did.
Training with a Team accelerates results and makes training fun.
At our greatest level, one that some recognize right away and others will ease in to with time, CrossFit HEL is a family. Yes we aim to improve our own GPP and yes we motivate and compete with each other to accelerate positive physical adaptations (results), but above all we are a community. Inside the walls of HEL you can expect to find men and women that will become close, life-long friends. Since 2006 I've seen three pairs of Teammates get married! Trail runs in the summer, trips to Mt. Hood in the winter, and keg parties all year long, the CrossFit HEL community trains and plays together. Our Mission Statement concludes, ". . .and stand as an equal in a family of warriors." This is the deepest value of HEL and why, once you begin your training with us, you will realize that we are not a gym.
We are a family.
