Next Monday, June 23rd, is the next groups Basic Skill Level test. We do the Basic Skill Level 4 times each year, on or around the Summer Soltice, Winter Soltice, Autumn Equinox, and Vernal Equinox. The test will be held from 5pm-7pm and open to any Recruit Skill Level member who wants to participate. If we get a large turnout, the test may exceed two hours.
Following the Basic Skill Level test is a Team BBQ at 7pm. There will be no scheduled 7pm workout but the entire evening will operate in an Open Lab format due to the HEL5. This is a BYOB/BYOM BBQ and those of you that are doing the CFHEL Nutrition Challenge are welcome to bring in a whole foods dish to share. If you bring in a dish to share and it is made up of whole foods, you will receive a bonus of 5 points to add to your daily total! Think of it as Community Points!
The HEL5 is the WOD for Monday and for those of you that have done the HEL5 before you know how long it takes to complete. If this is your first HEL5 I recommend you show up 2 or more hours before you intend on finishing the workout. We do the HEL5 twice a year and it is the opportunity to establish a 1RM for the Back Squat, Press, Deadlift, Bench Press, and Overhead Squat. The format for the workout is Open Lab which means you don't have to begin on the hour - simply show up any time after 4pm and begin to warm-up. Once you are ready to have your 1RM verified by a coach, call on of us over (Al and I will both be in the Lab that evening) and we will judge the rep to ensure it is complete. You will get two 1RM attempts for each exercise. Since there are 5 exercises and it takes a bit of time to warm-up to a true 1RM, I highly recommend arriving early and allowing yourself at least 21 full hours to complete the WOD (which is the reason for the Open Lab format).
