A Big New Group

May_21st_2008_014Due to the holiday weekend, the new team of Member Candidates finished their training course on Wednesday, May 21st.  Before Memorial Day weekend, most of them had already come to some workouts.  One has even begun Basic testing.  This will be a team to watch - a great show a teamwork throughout the course as well as individual improvements across the board.  Congratulations to Jeff, Travis, Danielle, Sebastian, Sarah, Miles, Mike, Kate, Jason, Tracey, and Veronica!

Our Only Blue Shirt Earns the Blue Shirt!

May_24th_2008_003Congratulations to Zach Domka who finished his Basic qualifications on Saturday.  Christine and the 2k row on the same day - that is a tough combination.  Zach made it look easy!  (While rowing his 2k, Zach did the first 500m in under 1:32 which satisfied the qualification for the Elite 500m row!)

Track Day and Reminder

This week the Track Day will be on Monday so meet us all at Fernhill Park.  As usual, the sign will be on the door in case anyone forgets to check the blog.
The schedule has officially changed for all future Saturdays and it is reflected in the schedule link.  There is no longer a 1:00PM WoD on Saturdays.  There is a new 11:00AM WoD on Saturdays.  The facility will close at 12:00PM.  The guest workout that is usually held at 1:00PM on Saturdays has also been moved to 11:00AM.  Follow the schedule link for a look at the schedule.

At Least Preschool Level.

May_15th_2008_2This was just too funny to leave on the WoD blog.  When we did the complex motor skills workout and had to color in the bear after 5 rounds of Cindy, the 6PM team ran out of bears to color.  It just so happens that Josh Stein was the last to do Station 1 and had to bear.  Tarr was running the workout and told him to draw something.  Well here is that something.  A bunny and a couple of eggs.  He even colored in half the bunny.  Now, what is most funny to me about this picture isn't the pre-school quality coloring (which I expect nothing less from the steady hand of Josh S.) but rather the context.  A bunny Josh?  Really?  Why a bunny?  Very funny dude and nicely done!

Schedule Change

Beginning Saturday, May 24th, the 1:00PM Workout Of the Day and the 1:00PM guest WoD will be moved to 11:00AM.  This Saturday the schedule will remain the same (1:00PM WoD).  This Saturday and next Saturday are the last two Saturdays to test for Basic/Advanced.  After next Saturday (May 24th), the testing procedures will be changed and announced at a later time.  If you are wanting to test for Basic or Advanced, schedule with me this Saturday for 10:00AM and 12:00PM, respectively.  The schedule will reflect these changes early next week.

Salvation Army

As you may or may not know, over the past 14 months CrossFit H.E.L. has been amassing a "Forgotten Shit" box.  It is mostly made up of clothing that was shed during the course of a workout and left behind.  These items (clothes, dishes, shoes, etc.) will be donated to the Salvation Army on Monday, May 19th.  I will be taking everything after the 8:30AM workout on my way to Nike in Beaverton.  If you think you have lost anything in the last 14 months that may be here at the gym, let me know as soon as possible.  (There is some nice stuff in this box so please take a look if you think you lost something at the facility.)

Two More Enter the Basic Rank!

Basics_004Ryan Barlow and Jill Schlosser both took the challenge this morning at 10:00AM to complete the Basic qualifications.  Neither Ryan nor Jill had any previous attempts made on achieving the Basic rank.  Going through the list movement after movement they were able to finish the test in under two hours - including driving to Fernhill Track and then over to Jefferson Track!
Basics_007After finishing Christine, Jill decided to practice her back squats.  I've seen a picture like that before (Workout of the Day blog, November 2nd, 2007).
Ryan after finishing Christine.  Cute Ryan. . .very cute.

Another Recruit Gets His Muscle-up!

Ryan_barlowOne of the families newest members has just gotten his muscle-up!  Ryan Barlow finished Boot Camp only a couple of weeks ago but has been practicing the muscle-up for only a week.  After getting over the rings the first time, I had to ask him to do it again for a photo.  No problem.  Ryan just grabbed the rings, stuck a false grip, and pulled himself up and over like he had been doing it for years.  I guess we will do muscle-ups next week!
Looking at the Muscle-up Club I see a lot of Recruits who have a muscle-up.  Should I start keeping my Saturdays open for Basic testing? :)
