Nice Work This Month

November_29th_2007_003_2After finishing the fourth week of the new heavy day format, I think we will keep this design for a few more months.  Nearly everyone hit a new Personal Record for the Deadlift yesterday and I expect the same to happen next month with the December lift.  For those of you who like surprises, stop reading now! Next month the goal will be to work toward a 1 RM Clean.  This a full squat Clean, not a power Clean (although you can expect to see power Cleans in a few workouts).

Check out the Workout Of the Day blog to see everyone new PR!

Holiday Party At The Lab

Alright, if you haven't met all the coaches yet then you should know they all have one thing in common. . .they all love to PARTY!  It has been brought to my attention that the last time we had a family gathering was in May - way too long ago considering all the new additions to the Team.  So the collective decision was made to throw a holiday party - the only question was when?  I am going to leave the answer to this up to the Team.  Here are the four dates to choose from:
    Friday, December 14th
    Saturday, December 15th
    Friday, December 21st
    Saturday, December 22nd

Post vote and why to comments.

Fire Team Push-ups

November_27th_2007_003Fire team push-ups at 6:30AM!  Ingrid Johnson, Ellen Stenard, Evan Smith, and Sara Stiles (?) doing some pretty honest push-ups - nice work!  And congratulations to Lee Gibson, our newest member to the Muscle-up Club!

My Last Absence

I will be leaving Portland again for 12 days in December.  I will be gone from the 1st (this Saturday) until the 12th.  This will be the last time I leave Portland or the Lab for a long time.  In case anyone didn't know, I was gone for a week at the end of October.  With the help of the coaches (special thanks to John), everything operated as normal.  Boot Camps will continue to operate as scheduled for the dates I am gone.  This will be the member candidates third and beginning of fourth weeks, so the schedule is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 6:00AM - whenever.  If anyone needs to see me before I go, get to me before Friday.  I have a morning flight on Saturday.

A Few Announcements

First I want to say that Team HEL kicks ass!  Secondly - happy holidays.  Now down to business. . .

As many of you have noticed, the Lab has been cleaned.  Just us the usual sweeping but a full mopping with bleach.  This will be a monthly cleaning routine that will happen over a weekend.  Allow the current cleanliness of the Lab be a visual reminder for you of the following:

    1. CrossFit Human Evolution Labs is OUR elite fitness training facility.  The word 'OUR' is capitalized here because it is important for us all to remember that we are a family of athletes, not members of a gym.  Every one of you has EARNED your training privilege through Boot Camp.  The completion of Boot Camp is more than a successful attempt at proper body mechanics, it is also the acceptance into the Lab, the facility - the family.  As a part of the family, it is your responsibility to keep our 'home' and 'gear' in the best possible condition - just as you would your own.
    2. CrossFit Human Evolution Labs is our ELITE fitness training facility.  Let's be honest with ourselves and everyone else reading this blog post - CrossFitters are at the top of the fitness food chain.  We are, by all definitions, elite; the best of anything considered collectively, persons of the highest class, representing the best, etc.  Operating at an elite capacity means more than just physical ability, mental toughness, and a rock-hard will.  There must also be conscious awareness.
    3. CrossFit Human Evolution Labs is our elite FITNESS training facility.  Obviously, we are all here in part to get better, faster, stronger, etc.  Putting gear back after a workout can be a great cool-down. . .
    4. CrossFit Human Evolution Labs is our elite fitness TRAINING facility.  This is where we "forge elite fitness".  On a more spiritual level, the Lab is where we break through negative 'life-obstacles', e.g. fear, pain, discomfort, etc. and develop a clearer and more confident living persona, i.e. the unconscious mental construct of our self.  When put that way, the Lab becomes more like a dojo, a church, or a temple.  Treat the Lab and your training gear (the tools you need to evolve) the same as you would a temple.  This may even help you break some fitness barriers.  When you begin to understand how physical training (CrossFit) and spiritual progress (control of fear, more confident in abilities, being the director of your 'life movie' rather than an extra) are related you have begun the path of the Warrior.

More announcements to follow, check the blog again tomorrow. . .
